Subj: March ’98 Federation Meeting Minutes

  1. The March 1998 Federation Meeting was convened at 4:43 p.m. on March 8th, 1998 at the Kahala Community Recreation Center.
  2. Attendance: The Federation Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Treasurer, and Secretary were in attendance. The following clubs were represented: Pali Twirlers, Square Wheelers, Diamond Heads ‘n Sides, Aloha Paradise Dancers, Hayseeds, and North Shore Twirlers.

    1. A total of 20 Federation members and guests were in attendance.
    2. The Chairman opened the meeting and made welcoming remarks..
  4. Minutes: The minutes from the 8 February 1998 Annual meeting were reviewed. Paragraph 6a was corrected to read "Larry Chadwick"; paragraph 6b was corrected to read "Kim Akagi"; and paragraph 8d was corrected to read "Maui No Ka Oi Festival Dance – Apr 17th, 18th, and 19th. The minutes were accepted as corrected.
  5. Treasurer’s Report: The 1998 Executive Committee assumed control of the Federation fiscal assets on March 1st 1998. The checking account has an unreconciled error of approximately $150. The error is being researched

    1. Convention – Jack Carruthers presented the final report of the 33rd Aloha State Square Dance Convention. Joanne McNeil presented a report on the 1998 Cuer and Caller Hospitality Room. Bob Keller summarized the cruise – 132 people signed up. They found the quickest way to clear a dance floor was to spot whales and dolphins. Bob is also the 1999 convention chairman and asked that the federation sponsor the trail-in dances and after-party as part of the convention. The executive committee members for the 1999 convention are Bob Keller, David Lemon, and Jack Carruthers.
    2. Social Calendar – please get your club special event information into Janet Granich for consolidation. Janet will be compiling a two-year calendar of all events through 1999.
    3. Coming Events – please forward your near-term (30 Day) club information to Ken and Tina Maria Jordan.
    4. Hotline – Ken Jordan stated that changes are updated weekly so please provide feedback to him.
    5. Advertising – Melissa Tjoe placed free advertising in the Midweek, Advertiser, and Downtown Planet’s social calendar. She will be working from our Social Calendar to get the information. She will also be checking out other advertising options.

    1. Corporation renewal license was submitted with a $5 fee. Corporate tax filing for 1997 is being worked by Al Chock.

    1. Dues and membership list was received from the Slewfoot Promenaders.
    2. Annual dues are outstanding from three clubs – North Shore Twirlers, Rainbeaus and Belles, and Pali Twirlers.
    3. Hawaii Foodbank exhibition is the 18th of April. A question was raised about the list of dancers. Dave Lemon will develop and distribute a sign up sheet.

    1. A requested exhibition is scheduled for April 29th, 6- 8 PM at One Kalakaua Senior Citizen’s Center. Andy Scot has agreed to call. A second exhibition to be held at Moanaloa Gardens with Norm Hangman is not yet scheduled. Dancers will be needed at both exhibitions.
    2. Federation meeting time and place was discussed for possible change. After much discussion a determination was made to stay with the present schedule.
    3. Ken Jordan summarized the CALLERLAB Y-2000 Initiative.
  15. Club Reports:

    1. Club representatives present was given a brief opportunity to present a summary report on their respective club activities. The chairman requested that representatives write out specifics to get accurate reporting.
    2. The Hayseeds, with the Spares and Pairs, are having a potluck March 21st. They will also be holding their anniversary dance the 11th of April at the bandstand. Everyone is invited.
    3. Diamond Heads ‘n Sides Spring Fling will be held 27 March 98 at the Ala Wai Palladium. Tom Barnhardt will cue pre-rounds from 6:30 to 7:00.
    4. The Aloha Paradise Dancers (APD) are looking to sponsor a dance.
    5. Tough Plus class starts Tuesday, March 10th, at Manoa Valley District Park. Ken Jordan is teaching it. Contact Ken for further information.
    6. The Tsunamis are sponsoring a Tax Dance on April 15th. They are also looking for new members – their dues are $10/year.
  17. Next Meeting: The next meeting of the Federation will be held April 18th on Maui during the Maui No Ka Oi Festival dance due to the Easter holiday.
  18. Meeting was adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
