Subj: May 98 Federation
Meeting Minutes
1. The May 1998 Federation Meeting
was convened at 4:3 p.m. on May 17th, 1998 at the Kahala
Community Center.
- Attendance: The
Federation Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer were
in attendance. The following clubs were represented:
Aloha Paradise Dancers, Hayseeds, Diamond Heads &
Sides, Pali Twirlers, North Shore Twirlers, and Square
Wheelers.
a. A total of 15 Federation members and guests were in
attendance.
b. The Vice-Chairman opened the meeting and made
welcoming remarks.
- Minutes: The minutes
for the April 1998 Regular Meeting were reviewed. The
minutes were accepted as published.
- Treasurers Report:
The Treasurers report was distributed for review.
The balance was $1,990.20 in checking and $5,218.73 in
savings for a total of $7,208.93. Following a brief
discussion, the Treasurers report was accepted
subject to audit.
- Committees: Each
Committee Chairperson present gave a brief outline of
their duties and progress.
a. The Convention Chairman, Mr. Robert Keller, was not
able to make the meeting.
b. The Advertising Chair, Ms. Melissa Tjoe, discussed her
progress in obtaining free advertising in the local
newspapers and trade publications. Currently the only
free advertizing she has found is with the Downtown
Planet. She is asking for suggestions to follow-up.
- Correspondence: No
significant correspondence was received.
- Old Business:
- Revised By-Laws
- Inputs were
received from Messrs. Strong, Gallagher,
and McNeil. Thank you to those gentlemen
for contributing their ideas,
suggestions, and comments.
- The Chairman
will review the recommendations and
submit revised By-Laws at the June
meeting.
- The 1998 Federation
Address Books have been distributed. Please
submit any changes or corrections to Tina Maria
Jordan.
- New Business:
- September
National Square Dance Month: take the following
back to the clubs for input at the next meeting:
- Max effort to
interest new members in Square and Round
Dance activities.
- Club and
member recommendations requested for
special events and activities to recruit
new members. Church groups, social clubs,
school activities?
- Establish and
coordinate new entry-level classes.
Time/Place/Instructors
- Establish
media (TV/Radio) contact and exposure
(Anyone has a point of contact?)
- Advertising
campaign plan.
- Committee
Head/Volunteers?
- Club
initiatives
- Convention buttons
give-aways for National convention
attendees.
- Motion was
made for the federation to fund $300.00
toward the purchase with the executive
committee making determination of what to
buy. After an extended discussion, the
motion was carried.
- Historian no
history of Federation activities is available.
Take to clubs for determination if this position
is wanted.
- Club Reports: Each
Club Representative was given an opportunity to detail
their club activities. Special items of note included:
a. Aloha Paradise Dancers have invited the A-1 students
to dance with them. Also, APD will not dance in June due
to their caller being away. One exception June 11th
they will have a visiting caller from Japan.
b. Square Wheelers anniversary dance is in August.
c. Pali Twirlers are participating in the 4th
of July parade in Kailua. All are welcome to join them.
There will be a picnic afterward.
d. Tsunamis are working to set up a mainstream/plus level
dance with visiting caller Rod Braddish on the 12th
or 13th of June.
e. Square dance videos are still available.
f. June 1st deadlines for Mauna Kea Roundup.

g. Senior Citizens Fun Night: May 29th at One
Kalakaua Senior Citizens Living Center with Andy Scott.
Couples needed. Contact Dave Lemon.
h. National Convention in Charlotte, NC June 25-27th.
i. USA West Convention in San Francisco in July.
- Next Meeting: The next
meeting of the federation will be held Sunday June 14th
at the Kahala Recreation Center (4:30 PM) due to
Fathers Day on June 21st.
- Meeting was adjourned at
approximately 5:15 p.m.
