Subj: July 98 Federation
Meeting Minutes
The July 1998 Federation Meeting
was convened at 4:30 p.m. on July 12th, 1998 at the Kahala
Community Center.
1. Attendance: The
Federation Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer were
in attendance. The following clubs were represented: Aloha
Paradise Dancers, Hayseeds, Diamond Heads & Sides, Pali
Twirlers, and Square Wheelers. Local caller, Mr. Ken Jordan was
in attendance.
- A total of 11 Federation
members and guests were in attendance.
- The Chairman opened the
meeting and made welcoming remarks.
2. Minutes: The minutes for
the June 1998 Regular Meeting were reviewed. The minutes were
accepted as published.
3. Treasurers Report:
The Treasurers report was distributed for review. The
balance was $824.78 in checking and $4,250.97 in savings. The
Treasurers report was accepted subject to audit.
4. Committees: Each
Committee Chairperson present gave a brief outline of their
duties and progress.
- Advertising
chairperson was unavailable.
- Social Calendar no
inputs have been received from the outer islands; missing
St. Patricks Day dances, Mauna Kea RoundUp, Maui No
Ka Oi, and Hotfoot Stomp dates through 2000.
- Coming Events copies
were distributed at the meeting. These are on-line and
posted on the web page.
- Hotline Coordinator
hotline was updated as of July 12th and events
are also on the web page.
- The Convention Chairman, Mr.
Robert Keller, was not able to make the meeting. Dave
Lemon gave an update.
1) A list of convention committee jobs with
job descriptions was handed out to each club
representative (to be mailed to clubs unable to attend).
We are asking that federation reps canvass their club
members for volunteers to take these jobs.
2) The Outrigger Hotels
are working lodging issues for people interested in
attending the convention. This includes vendor
hospitality suites and caller/cuer accommodations.
3) JBL (Japan Travel
Bureau) has a team in Honolulu working to determine how
best to promote the convention over in Japan.
5. Correspondence:
- 2000 Convention will be
listed in the 1999 National Square Dance Directory under
Festivals. Also see "New Business."
- 48th National
Square Dance Convention in Indianapolis, IN is scheduled
for June 23rd 26th, 1999.
Received a fashion show invitation and are looking for
volunteers. Convention registration forms are available.
If anyone plans to attend and would like to represent us
in the Fashion Show, please let us know. Kim Akagi and
David Lemon represented us in this years show.

6. Old Business:
- September National
Square Dance Month
1)
Chairmans Letter sent out with last
months minutes. Looking for responses.
2) Club activities
please send details of proposed activities for federation
support.
3) Committee
Heads/Volunteers looking for responses.
- Revised By Laws are still
being worked.
7. New Business:
- Convention Registrations Fees
for minor children. Following extensive discussions, a
motion was made and seconded to establish a fee of $12.50
for children under 17. An intense discussion ensued along
with a review of the National and Regional Convention
Policies. The motion was carried.
- Federation Potluck
Picnic/Beach Party & Dance will be at Bellows AFS
"B" Pavilion on August 16th from
11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. A vehicle DoD Decal is required
for base access or contact Andy Scott at 254-2333 to
register your name with gate guards. Get dialogue going
to highlight this event. Please bring enough potluck to
share. Federation will provide plates, forks, spoons, and
napkins.
- National Square Dance
Directory Club listings/corrections are due August 15th.
- Aloha State Year 2000
Convention. Looking for Special Planning, Activities, and
Slogans. Please give us your ideas for discussion next
meeting.
- Checking and Savings Account
Management motion was made, discussed and carried
to accomplish the following:
1) Consolidate both accounts with Bank of
Hawaii.
2) Provide Deposit cards
for executive board members to deposit income with Bank
of Hawaii Business Center Account.
- Hawaii State Dance Costumes
Recommendations: The question brought up is
"Are you in favor of adopting a standard color
scheme/pattern as a Hawaii State costume? Purchase and
wear are optional. Please solicit responses from your
club members and ideas if there is a positive response.
8. Club Reports: Each Club
Representative was given an opportunity to detail their club
activities. Special items of note included:
- Aloha Paradise Dancers have
invited the A-1 students to dance with them.
- Deadline for Mauna Kea
Roundup extended to July 15th. See Flyer Get
the word out. Encourage
attendance. Dates are Sep 11th 13th.
- National Convention was held
in Charlotte, NC June 25-27th. 11 Hawaii
dancers attended. There were 13,000 total. Over 1,500
Convention flyers/registration forms were picked up.
- USA West Convention in San
Francisco July 22nd 25th.
Six Hawaii dancers plan to attend at this time. A display
with flyers was sent.
- 48th National
Square Dance Convention, Indianapolis, IN is scheduled
for the 23rd 26th of June
1999. Get your registrations in earlier and plan your
accommodations to fit your needs.
- Pali Twirlers and supporting
clubs participated in the 4th of July parade
in Kailua. There were two squares + children. They were
rained on at the reviewing stands, but a good time was
had by all. The Pool Party/Potluck picnic afterward at the
Schneidermans was a success. Andy Scott has
started approximately 40 elementary school children
learning square dancing. This may carry over into the
school year with a possible parent/child evening to be
scheduled in September.
9. Next Meeting: The next
meeting of the federation will be held Sunday August 9th
at the Kahala Recreation Center (4:30 PM).
10. Meeting was adjourned
