Nov 7, 1999 Chairman’s Notes: These minutes and my notes are published to share information with all State dancers. Please post them prominently and encourage discussion on the issues and topics. I welcome your comments and feedback on Federation and Club activities. The clubs of our Federation and their membership, are the essential ingredient which allows us all to enjoy square dancing in Hawaii. It is the club's members who take the time to schedule the dances, set up the halls, and make all the arrangements which enable the rest of the dancers to enjoy an evening of "friendship set to music". This management burden is insignificant when spread lightly among many. With everyone pitching in, we can all equally enjoy our entertainment. However, I note that many of our dancers have elected to drop their club membership (and its inherent obligations) in favor of attending the dances without doing any of the work. Although we generally enjoy their company, they are not carrying their fair share of the workload. A few dollars donated to the club's treasury doesn't really contribute anything to minimizing the management burden. Some of our club's memberships are now down to only five or six dancers doing all the work while the other two or three squares enjoy all the fun. If we continue to abuse these few dedicated members, tomorrow we may not have anyone willing to organize our activities. Be sure you are part of the solution and not a part of the problem. And, remember to thank those dedicated few who every week, are dancing that extra mile so that we can all enjoy the fun, fitness, and friendship of square dancing.
