FEDERATION ANNUAL MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 26, 2008

The 2008 Annual Meeting of the Hawaii Federation of Square Dance Clubs was convened at 5:32 p.m., Saturday, January 26, 2008, at the Ala Wai Clubhouse.

1.         ATTENDANCE:  Officers: Co-chairmen Henry Staehle and Wilma Seeman, Vice Chairman Barbara Tatsuguchi, Treasurer Brenda Powell, and Secretary Janet Granich.  The following clubs were represented:  High Hopes, Maui Mixers, Lava Klinkers, Slewfoot Prominaders, Pali Twirlers, Square Wheelers, Hayseeds, and Paradise Shufflers.  Guests:  Bud and June Nakama.

2.         MINUTES:  Co-Chairman Henry Staehle asked for additions or corrections to the Annual Meeting minutes of January 27, 2007. There being none, the minutes were approved as presented.

3.         TREASURER’S REPORT:  The Treasurer reported that of December 31, 2007, the balance on hand was $17,667.30. Last year’s comparative balance was $16,604.79, a difference of approximately $800, due to 2008’s increased registration. The Treasurer’s report was accepted as presented.  Dues are now due based on $10.00 per member, per club.

4.        REGISTRAR/CHAIRMAN’S REPORT:  Henry reported that as of this date 210 people have registered and it is expected that between 10 and 15 more will register tonight.  In addition, 44 badges, 60 bars and 11 Rover Badges have been sold.  Income so far is $5,564 and expenses $4,190.  No critique sheets have been received and no complaints heard so far.

5.        CORRESPONDENCE:   Tim and Melissa Voss have notified the Federation that the Tsunamis are no longer active and wish to resign from the Federation. Stan and Cindy Weeks have also resigned from the Federation, there being no Square Dance activity on Kauai.

6.        OLD BUSINESS:

            a.    Domaine Name:  It was unanimously agreed to pay the required $83.40 to keep the Web Page domain name.

            b.    Coming Events Calendar:  Willie Seeman offered to keep the Coming Events calendar current in the future and post it to the Web Page.

            c.    Club Dues:  The concept of $10.00 per member per club was discussed. This covers Federation administration costs and insurance.  However, Bill Yoeman, who runs two caller-run clubs, does not need Federation insurance coverage because he gets insurance through the American Callers’ Association.  He said his 12 members feel they receive little value from the Federation and asked that he be allowed to support the Federation by contributing $10.00 each for he and his wife.

            d.    Insurance:  It was noted that club members are not covered by Federation insurance.  Irene Ferreira has been providing our insurance for many years and conscientiously obtains the most advantageous rates for the Federation.  After discussion it was agreed to continue to get our insurance through Irene Ferreira.

            e.    Community Dance:  Several interested people attended the community dance and Dave Fullaway and David Jenkins said they felt it would be worthwhile to continue with the dance next year.  Dave volunteered to cover advertising and publicity.

            f.    Callers and Cuers for next year:  After discussion, it was agreed to ask the same cuers to return next year. It was also agreed to ask Dan Preedy to return and to speak to his cousin, Doug Davis about his interest in also calling next year.

7.        ELECTION OF OFFICERS: One more year remains on the terms of Co-Chairmen Henry Staehle and Wilma Seeman.  After receiving no new nominations for the offices of Vice Chairman and Secretary, Barbara Tatsuguchi agreed to accept another term as Vice Chairman and Janet Granich agreed to accept another term as Secretary. Brenda Powell will continue to serve her current term as Treasurer.  John Fung has agreed to serve as Festival Chairman for 2008 and has asked for detailed instructions and information.

8.        CLUB REPORTS:

            a.  Paradise Shufflers:  The club has 40 active members with two to three squares every Saturday night.  Most of them are working adults with teen-age children.

            b.  Square Wheelers:  Currently Square Wheelers has a Square Dance class going on through February.  Barbara reported that there are 25 round dancers.

            c.  Slewfoot Prominaders and Lava Klinkers: Bill Yoeman, Caller, reported that the Slewfoot Prominaders dance twice a week on Saturdays and Mondays, usually with one-and-one-half squares.

            d.  High Hopes and Maui Mixers:  Dave Fullaway. Caller, reported that the Maui Mixers are still active and dance every Thursday night.

            e.  Pali Twirlers:  Barbara Tatsuguchi reported that the club has only 14 members with usually one square dancing because most of the members are travelers.  However, we enjoy dancing as an advance club.

9.         NEXT MEETING:  The next meeting will be held at the call of the Co-Chairmen.

10.       ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Janet L. Granich, Secretary
