DECEMBER 2004 MEETING MINUTES

 

The December meeting was convened at 6:05 pm on Sunday, January 9, 2005, at the Ala Wai Palladium Ballroom.

 

1.  Attendance:  Federation Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer and Festival Registrar.  The following clubs were represented:  Square Wheelers, Pali Twirlers, Tsunamis and Hayseeds. 

 

2.  Minutes:  The Chairman asked for additions or corrections to the minutes of the October 23, 2004 meeting.  The minutes were approved as stated.

 

3.  Treasurer's Report:    The Treasurer reported that the balance on hand as of December 31, 2004 was $12,278.26.  It was also reported that the IRS has granted tax exempt status to the Federation.  We are still awaiting a ruling from the State.  The Treasurer's report was accepted as presented.

 

4.  Committee Reports:

            State Festival:  The State Festival Events begin on January 25th, the date of the Festival Luau.  Henry Staehle reported that there are 180 registered dancers including 3 from Australia, 17 from Japan and one group of 58 coming with caller Dan Preedy. 

Dave Lemon distributed a draft of the Festival program and asked that he be given any corrections or additions within 12 hours as the final edition would be going to print.

Buster Forbes, the Festival Chair, reported that date bars and ribbons have been ordered.  He and Norma will prepare the Festival Packets.  Volunteers from the local clubs will be needed to staff various duties for the festival.  Buster and Keith Long will be circulating a signup list for these volunteer positions.

 

5.  Correspondence:  none

 

6.  Old Business:  none

 

7.   New Business:  We have requested a quote for the renewal of the Federation's liability insurance.  The current policy expires in February.

 

Dosado.com suggested that the Federation consider making a donation to the web site.  We have free use of this site to list our square dance activities and events, and post a link to our Federation web site.  We also used this site to advertise for Festival callers and cuers.  A motion was approved to donate $100 to the site.

 

8.  Club Reports:

 

USA West:  Melissa reported that the IRS has approved tax exempt status for USA West Honolulu.  To date, 107 people are registered for the event.  The checking account balance is $708.66 and the savings account balance is $948.76.

A pre-convention dance is scheduled on March 5, 2005 at McCoy Pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park.  The dance time is 6:30 to 9:00 PM.  The USA West Policy Board will hold a meeting on the morning of March 5. 

Square Wheelers:  No report.

Pali Twirlers:  Janet reported that the club is getting ready to host the Festival Luau.

Tsunamis:  Melissa reported that there are 11 people signed up for the whale watching cruise. 

 

9.  The next Federation meeting is scheduled to be held on January 29th, 5:30 pm at the Ala Wai Palladium Ballroom.

 

10.  The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 pm.
