HAWAII FEDERATION OF SQUARE DANCE CLUBS

MARCH 2, 2006, MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was convened at 6:15 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Pohai Nani.

1.         ATTENDANCE:  Officers: Co-chairmen, Treasurer, and Festival Registrar.  The following clubs were represented:  Pali Twirlers, and Square Wheelers and Hayseeds.

2.         MINUTES:  Co-Chairman Henry Staehle asked for additions or corrections to the minutes of the December 2005, meeting. There being none, the minutes were approved as presented.   

3.         TREASURER’S REPORT:  The Treasurer reported that as of February 28, 2006, the Federation’s net worth, after Festival expenses, is $11,982.98. She said that so far dues have been received from the Pali Twirlers, the Rainbeaus and Belles, and the Square Wheelers and Hayseeds.  The Treasurer’s Report was accepted as presented.

4.         COMMITTEE REPORTS: 

a.  Chairman’s Report:  Henry Staehle reported that the 41st Aloha State Festival had been very successful and that 230 dancers had attended.  He said that the next effort will be directed toward approving a budget for the ensuing year and selecting the callers and cuers for the 42nd Festival.

5.         CORRESPONDENCE:  E-mail correspondence from Bill and Linda Maisch, which was distributed via e-mail to board members.

6.         OLD BUSINESS:

            a.  National Convention Table Volunteers:  Volunteers are needed to man the Hawaii State table at the National Convention.  At present it is not known who will be attending, but the Fullaways have usually gone in the past.

            b.  Web Site Renewal:  The Treasurer was asked to mail a check to renew the web site, which must be done each year in April. 

            c.  USA West Hawaii Convention:  In the absence of Tim Voss there was no report.

7.         NEW BUSINESS

a.  Club Dues:  Federation membership dues have not been received from several clubs.  These clubs will be reminded to send in their dues, which were due on February 1st.

b.  2007 Festival Budget and proposed contract for callers and cuers.  The Co-Chairman said that, we have recovered from the earlier deficit and considering our improved financial situation we are now able to offer our callers and cuers a better deal in 2007.  Proposed budgets for year 2006 and the 2007 festival were passed out.  After discussion it was unanimously agreed to offer all callers and cuers $3.00 per registered dancer and to pay up to $400 for Linda Maisch’s airfare because of her considerable contribution to the workshops.  A new budget based on these changes will be prepared and distributed.

c.  Selection of 2007 Festival callers and cuers: Selection of the Festival callers and cuers was discussed.  It was noted that callers Dan Preedy and John Kephardt have been approached and that the Maisches have indicated that they would be attending next year.  Another cuer is needed for Hall No. 2 and suggestions are welcome.

d.  Appointment of Festival Chairman:  The office of Festival Chairman is open.  Please consider accepting this office and/or notify other club members of this opening.  Dan Seeman offered to assist the appointed Festival Chairman as needed

8.         CLUB REPORTS AND ACTIVITIES

            a.  Square Wheelers:  The Square Wheelers held its annual election of officers last Sunday and the following were elected:  Dan Seeman, President; Joy Anne Long, Vice President; Brenda Powell, Treasurer; and Ann Todd Secretary.

            b.  Pali Twirlers:  Nothing to report.

 9.         NEXT MEETING:  The next meeting will be held at the call of the Co-Chairmen.

 10.       ADJOURNMENT:  The meeting adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
