October, 2005 MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was convened at 4:00 pm on Saturday, Oct 22, 2005, at Kilauea Military Camp, Volcanoes National Park in conjunction with the Lava Klinkers' Hot Foot Stomp Festival.

1.  Attendance:  Federation Chairman, Kim Akagi, Bill & Carol Yoeman, Dave & Ruth Fullaway, Buster and Norma Forbes, and Robert Kovacs.   

2.  Minutes:  The Chairman deferred approval of the minutes of the July, 2005 meeting due to the absence of the Board's Executive Committee.

3.  Treasurer’s Report:    The Treasurer's report of September 30 was presented which showed a balance of $8,437.00 as of Sept 30, 2005.  Expenses for the year to date where $2,505.19 and income of $3,106.40.  Net gain for the year was $601.21.  Approval was deferred due to the absence of the Board's Executive Committee.

4.  Reports:

            State Festival (Jan 24-29, 2006) – The Chairman summarized the planning for the 41st Aloha State Festival and recapped the current registration figures.    Total Festival registration as of Oct 2nd is 33 (16 Federation members).  It was noted that no neighbor island registrations have been received as yet.  Option for Federation registration ends on January 1st, 2006. 

             USA West 2006 – The Convention web site reports that 239 dancers are registered as of August 1st, 2005.  Hawaii registration shows 54 dancers.  The event will be held at the Ilikai Renaissance Hotel.  Concern was expressed over the lack of contact information, telephone numbers, or addresses on the Convention Web site.

            Hot Foot Stomp -  Bill Yoeman reported that the current Hot Foot Stomp was financially successful to due to the extra fund raising efforts of Carol Yoeman and some very generous donations from Big Island Dancers.  The '06 Lava Klinkers have committed to hosting the '06 Festival, Oct 20-22, 2006.  Caller Monk Moore has accepted a return invitation and club will be negotiating for a cuer.  Appreciation was expressed by the members for Bill's efforts to obtain a waiver for the National Park Fees and the Club's efforts to host a fun weekend.

            University of Hawaii, Maui - Dave Fullaway reported on his efforts to establish a formal credit course at UH for teachers to learn how to teach Square Dancing as a part of their student's physical education program.
