                         OCTOBER 21, 2006, MEETING MINUTES

The meeting was convened at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2006, at KMC, Big Island.

1.        ATTENDANCE:  Officers: Co-chairman Wilma Seeman.  The following clubs were represented:  Slewfoot Promenaders, Lava Klinkers, Maui Mixers, High Hopes, Pali Twirlers, Square Wheelers, Hayseeds and Paradise Shufflers.

2.        OLD BUSINESS:

            a.  A new club was reported as formed and going great on Oahu. The Paradise Shufflers, President, Mike Doane, formed approx. 6 months ago and already have a class going to train more dancers.

            b.  Andy Scott, long time caller on Oahu is not well and is not actively calling any more.  This is a major loss for the Oahu dance community.

3.         NEW BUSINESS

a.  Bill Yeoman, this year’s chairman of the Hot Foot Stomp, KMC, reports on the History of the Hot Foot Stomp. It has been held since 1963 and he would like to see it continue. But the last two years have been very hard to handle and continue financially. It was suggested that the Federation could and maybe should give a helping hand since this is the only Federation Dance held on the Big Island each year. The Stomp is no longer well attended by dancers from the other Islands. The 2 Big Isle Clubs were represented by 4 dancers each... A suggestion was made that each club send members to dance or pay a donation to help defray expenses. It was also suggested that if dancers plan ahead they have a whole year to make preparations to attend the Hot Foot Stomp. It will be held Oct. 19, 20 and 21, 2007. Reservations can be made now at KMC for housing for 2007.

b.  A suggestion was also made that there should be at least one Federation Meeting held each year on each Island, Maui and HI, as well as the ones held on Oahu.

c.  Dave Fullaway suggested that each dancer be made aware of the fact that they are members of the State Federation individually. And he suggested that a good way to do this and keep reinforcing it would be for each Club President to make an announcement at least quarterly. Tell them what the $10 fee paid to the Fed yearly for each member is used for. A good example is a $10 break on registration for our State Convention in Jan.

d.  Registration is also now open for the State Convention, to be held the last weekend of Jan. Register now and save $10.

e.  Dave asked who is now our Federation Web Master: Answer--Mike Doane. Mike is also in charge of the Fed. Code-a-Phone. Mike can be reached at doanesinhawaii@earthlink.net.

f.  Dave announced that there are dance’s held at Pukalani, Maui, on Monday Thursday and the 3rd Sunday at 5pm.

g.  The 2007 Convention is now in the heavy planning stage. We have 2 National Callers already signed up and 2 couples of National Cuers for the round dancers.

4.        ADJOURNMENT:  Dave Fullaway made a motion that the meeting be adjourned and Dan seconded.  Meeting was adjourned at 4:35pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Wilma Seeman
Co-Chairman
